Description
It was in the ruins of the Ancient Theater that the Venus of Arles was discovered in 1651. This exceptional Roman statue, inspired by Greek art and dating from the 1st century BC, generated incredible enthusiasm at the time.
Our Venus also charmed Louis XIV, to the point that the Sun King demanded that the city of Arles offer it to him. And he asked the sculptor François Girardon to reattach the two arms that had disappeared. It would first reign in the gardens of Versailles, then in the Louvre where it has been exhibited for years alongside the Venus de Milo.
But Venus is finally coming home! Lent for the first time by the Louvre, in a special exhibition organized at the departmental museum of Ancient Arles.
To celebrate the return of Venus, Moustique is releasing a new scarf, still designed by Roxane Lagache.
