We discovered these pomegranates in Istanbul's huge souk. They are handmade by Afghan jewelers who have taken refuge in Turkey. Their jewelry uses the motif of this fruit which, since time immemorial in Persia, Byzantium, and then throughout the Orient, has symbolized prosperity, fertility, and wisdom.
